Juvenile Injustice Reaction
As I read through Juvenile Injustice, I became more and more appalled at the way children in prison are treated. One story that stuck out to me was one in which a young child about the age of 8 I believe was investigated for sexual harassment because he played doctor with another young girl. That is absolutely ridiculous and I actually showed that page to my friend that I was sitting next to and she was shocked as well. Some of the stories the kids told were very sad and although they are technically criminals, I kind of feel bad for them. A few kids had mentioned that they had been in and out of juve since they were very young. It’s surreal to think that jail is the only thing those kids know and are familiar with. I can’t even imagine what the parents are going through either. If I had a child in juve I would never be able to stop thinking that I did a poor job of parenting. Overall, the book was very eye opening into the world of juvenile injustice.
