Juvenile in Justice Reflection
When I was going through the pictures and those kids’ stories, I was totally shocked. Those kids in prison have something in common. They all come from very poor family. And people in poverty are desperate. I remember one kid shot his dad because his dad had violently abused tendency and tried to hurt his little sister and brother. As I read more, I found it is ironic that how juvenile detention, a place which should provide opportunities for people to rehabilitate, becomes a place creating more crimes and suicides. Many kinds there are not the first time being arrested. Moreover, it is really confusing that how some juvenile detentions themselves become the origin of crime. I remembered that 1/8 kids have been sexually abused by staff or other kids in jail and even staff are also assaulted and injured. I hope we can talk more about this in class.
When I tried to find out the juvenile justice situation in China, the result was really disappointed. I googled the juvenile detention, and only several comments and pictures which were posted several years ago are valuable. In one picture, three people squatted next to the wall with their hands at their backs. The most interesting part is that their hair was all shaved completely and they all wore the same striped uniform. Beside the picture, there is an answer to a question that what’s situation in the juvenile detention. The answer was from a person who had been there for several years. The person said that he had been electrocuted. The public’s indifference about the juvenile justice really disappointed me. However, such result didn’t surprised me. I lived in China for almost 19 years but this is my very first time to google it. What do I expect of others?
