TGTAKM Reflections

Wow I have SO many mixed emotions about this book! First of all, was I the only one that took an embarrassingly long time to realize that the narrator was white, not a minority? Anyway, I definitely liked the story, but sometimes the non-chronological set up confused me a bit. At times, it was a bit frustrating because I just wanted to know what happened regarding a certain aspect of the story, but the next chapter was about something completely different! Namely, I kept expecting to read more about her cousin’s mixed-race baby, but she never mentioned it again after that short section.

Other than that, I really appreciated the author’s focus on music and accurate descriptions of how a single song can evoke such deeply rooted memories. On another note, I’m still curious about the title. It’s very intriguing to me, and I’m not completely clear on why she chose to name the book that.
