Persepolis Reflection/Comments

When I started reading this book, I had a weird sense of dejavu the whole time until I got to the part of the book where Marjane’s parents smuggle posters into the country for her. I then remembered I had read this book before in high school. What I found interesting was the way I  analyzed it during high school and for this class. I noticed different things the second time around because I was looking for different things. My high school class was a Middle Eastern studies class, so we were looking at the history and religious aspects of the story. For this class we look at different aspects of the book and by reading it again, I have noticed so much more and have enjoyed reading it a lot.

I hope we will get to talk about some of the major points of influence on Marjane throughout the story. Although this is quite broad, I think people will have some interesting ideas and opinions on what shaped her and how different events in her life made her the way she was. I believe she had a special upbringing and it provided her with a base of intelligence, courage, and creativity that some of her classmates and people in her life didn’t have.
