Question of the day: What color is American Cheese to you?

  1. Drivers Licenses- need to be copied ASAP, can be copied right after class at CCE, can be any color, There are apps which can take pictures into PDFS.
  2. Subscribe to the Blog- right hand side of blog
  3. Analysis and Redo will be handed out at the end of class
  4. Posts on blog should be titled in a way to attract reader

FOOD HACKS:

  • Follow @dhallhacks on Instagram for more
  • There is a sizzling salad station in D Hall near the pizza which prepares meats for your salad
  • Green tins can be used to bring food back to your dorm for $5
  • Ice cream sandwich can be made using cookies and hard ice cream (can include sprinkles)
  • Breakfast burrito which is then put in the panini press
  • Pasta, chicken, pesto, roasted pepers, garlic
  • Get the topping you want in your pasta and then give it them while it is being prepared
  • GREEK WEEK AT PASSPORT CAFE- Fun fact; each week is a different themed country 
  • Bananas are easier to open upside down
  • Foods with nuts at the dessert station are on the right side

Persepolis Discusion:

What are the different lenses that the story can be read through?

  • If you don’t know much about the history of Iran, it can be read as an informative piece
    • Not knowing much about it, people did not pay as much attention to detail
    • Felt like they only needed to know that there was a war going on
  • The lens of a student who is simply reading a story
  • Noticing the part of he story which she questions her identity- Looking for things to talk about in class
  • The way the author tells the story herself makes it more personal as supposed to related to the actual event
  • The way we are makes it easier to notice the things that are personal to us
    • Ex; Focusing on the details of the war because you want to know more about it
  • Her culture and civilization falling apart in contrast to trying to discover who she is build drama

Activity:

  • Look for a person we have not shared with and tell them a story about a trip you went on with your family
  • Listen to their story for parts where you connect with

After excursive:

  • People went on vacations to different places but were still able to find connections to a story
  • Why do stories make other stories happen?
  • No two people have had the same experiences
  • Did Marji’s particular up bringing shape her in a way different form other people?

Do you think there was something special about Marji or her upbringing that made her who she was?

  • Parents were very educated which gave her a different back round and shaped how she grew up
  • Even educated when schools were being closed down; Emphasizes her privilege
  • Personality of not being submissive made her act out the way she did
  • Resilient personality and experiences when she was younger made her true to herself
  • Gave up dreams (prophet)

What would you use to describe her?

  • Persistent- Always true to what she believed
    • Became more educated which changed her goals but not her desire to achieve the goals
  • Rebellious- Went against the norms of her society

What role did her parents play?

  • Conformed to her parents beliefs- hypocritical
  • She thought she was going to a prophet and very religious which was unlike her parents or how they raised her
  • Parents effect her trajectory but soon changes to the influence of her peers
  • Still has characteristics that are her own and not ones that the parents influence
  • She takes her own characteristics aside from her parents to become her own- “built a basis that she could grow from”

  • Analytical distinction is made to show how identity is based upon relationships
  • Telling herself stories about who she is – internal influence
  • Do we decide our personality?
  • What are the roles of storytelling and memories?
