Persepolis Question

Next class, I would like to discuss the role that Marji’s parents play on the development of Marji’s identity. It seemed like throughout a good part of the book, Marji was trying to tell her parents what they wanted to hear. She wanted to have the same political views as them, go to rallies with them, and be just like them in general. It will be interesting to see how Marji’s identity further develops in Persepolis 2 without her parents in Europe with her. This all parallels nicely with our current situation as college freshmen. Having just left our family and the ideals that they carry, now is our chance to develop our own personal identity. While it’s nice to have been given the groundwork of an identity from our parents, this will be an exciting time to find our true selves.
