My Experience Fingerprinting at Bon Air
I have never been to any sort of prison or detention center in my life- high school excluded. I didn’t know if I should have expected a scene such as I would see in a movie: tall, metal gates with swirling barbed wire on the top; giant, dark buildings looming overhead; those in the detention center walking around in orange jumpsuits. Maybe something friendlier? A big house with normal kids that have gotten in trouble? I was ready for anything.
When we pulled into the detention grounds, I was not shocked but intrigued. Yes, there were high gates with a spiral of barbed wire. No dark buildings or big houses but a collection of one-story buildings painted in an off-white. Plenty of space to be outside. No kids in sight. However, although I was not familiar with juvenile detention centers, as soon as I saw this one it just felt right. I thought, “Well of course that’s how it would look like.”
I’m even more curious now to see the inside.
