Bon Air First Impressions
I remember being quite nervous for this fingerprinting trip. After I finished my forms, I remember sitting in the waiting room with my peers and trying to keep myself busy. I must have been looking around a lot because the odd ceiling of the waiting room stands out in my mind; it was like ceiling tiles but almost fuzzy like carpet. Unsure of what awaited me during the actual fingerprinting process, I watched my classmates disappear in groups of two behind a door where they had to be buzzed in. I imagined them sitting one on one with a guard or correctional facility official in a room similar to those you’d see on cop shows. I wondered what questions I’d be asked when I finally made it behind that elusive door.
When my turn finally came, a kind lady opened the door for me and directed me toward a small room on my right. It was just a copy room. Situated next to the large printer was a computer and fingerprinting machine. I walked in a little shocked at the casualness of my surroundings but started to become more and more relaxed. The lady taking my fingerprints reminded me of my grandma, with her sweet smile and kind demeanor. I started to get a little nervous again when my right hand, especially my pinky finger, was giving the machine more than a little trouble, but the woman was patient and calm with me. Overall, this trip was much more relaxed than I thought it would be. While I’m sure the our first official trip to Bon Air in a few weeks will be a little less relaxed because we’ll be going into the facility itself, I was pleasantly surprised by the calmness of the office where we got our fingerprints taken.
