Reflection on Alice Walker’s Essay
So, I just finished reading Alice Walker’s essay that we had for homework and I thought I would kick things off with these blog posts because I absolutely loved this piece.
I thought it was beautiful… I really hope we can talk about how it connects to themes relevant today such as the body positive movement and the universal promotion of self love. Walker’s essay embodied the attitude/the journey to having this attitude that’s so prevalent today but in such an unconventional way… one unlike anything I have seen.
The story she writes is something I’m sure none of us have experienced but at the same time, I found myself relating so deeply to the feelings she described. That’s why I think it’s important to also connect this piece with goals for our project with Bon Air. Not that I know what this program will entail like I’m sure none of us do; but, I can imagine it will be hard for us to directly relate to the experiences these people have gone through. Yet, it will be the emotions from the stories they tell that we will definitely all be able to connect to in some way.
Anyways, these were my thoughts. Looking forward to talking about this piece in class!
