THESIS

Beyoncé challenges misogyny through her dominance in the patriarchal music industry as a writer and producer and by her celebration of black womanhood in her lyrics, vocal timbres, and audiovisuals as a Destiny Child’s member and solo artist by the portrayal of herself as formidable on the songs “Bills, Bills, Bills” released in 1999 and “Formation” in 2016.

The beauty salon is vital to black women because it’s a refuge and a safe space for them and celebrates their entrepreneurship. Beyonce’s mom owned a hair salon, and she had a lot of her first “performances”, so it is a very rich environment for her and black women.
