From the very moment that we see Michael Jackson in his music video Beat It, we see that he does not associate himself with violence. While other men around his age are engaged in violence and warfare between gangs, we see Michael in a space of his own; away from a world that appears violent. We see Jackson in a bed while other men are preparing for a gang fight or war. This moment is a juxtaposition of how Michael feels about the idea of violence and how he associates himself with peace rather than violence. Jackson distances himself from all the violence in the beginning of the video until he decides he can not take it anymore. We see him leave his room to attempt to stop the violence and meet one of the gangs at the bar they were at. It seems like Jackson was going to attempt to try and convince them not to go carry out the plans that they had come up with and instead, convince them of his idea of world peace; or at least to end street violence. With Jackson and Giraldi focusing- on the idea of Michael eliminating gang violence throughout the music video. It is highlighted towards the end of the video with Jackson comes between the two rivaling gangs and stands between the two convincing them not to fight. He is hoping to eliminate gang violence because of the real life gang members that were involved in the making of the video.

By using real members, he is hoping to appeal to the true gang members in the world in hope to make an impact on decreasing the amount of violence throughout the world. Not only does the fighting between gangs end, but after Jackson interferes with the fight, the two gangs end up dancing together in unison, but, his objective was not to end the violence through dancing. Rather ending it through his lyrics and hoping for people to hear the message in his voice. Giraldi is hoping to instill peace throughout the world and show that even through differences, people can find a way to come together in hopes of a common goal. Not only does Michael Jackson intervene in the fight, he shows the gangs that there are other things they may have in common and dancing is one of them. Aside from peace, the groups are able to find a similarity and common interest, when they may have thought there was not one. Even outside of the video and the “acting” the real life gang members were able to come together in real life, which was what Jackson and Giraldi were originally hoping for. So, instead of it just being a music video, the music video really accomplished its goal of peace (between the bloods and crips gangs).
