Becoming a self-directed learner is a process. SDLC 105 is designed to help you acquire skills, but the best way to learn is to practice and reflect upon your own learning.
First, however, you must think about your reasons for learning your target language and set learning goals for yourself. In this program, we ask that you assess your current abilities and set overall goals based on:
- our Levels of Competence document;
- the LinguaFolio® Checklists for:
- Interpretive Listening;
- Interpretive Reading;
- Interpersonal Communication;
- Presentational Writing;
- Presentational Speaking.
Then you must organize your learning around tasks that you wish to accomplish to meet your goals.
As you work on a task, you should reflect upon your own learning in your learning journal created on our private UR SDLAP e-portfolio network, Ning.
Finally, when you believe that you have completed a task, you document your learning by creating an ‘artifact’ for your electronic portfolio.
