{"id":247,"date":"2008-12-08T01:30:44","date_gmt":"2008-12-08T05:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/script_analysis\/2008\/12\/08\/sam-b-what-is-different-gonna-fill-in-how-in-a-second\/"},"modified":"2008-12-08T12:05:47","modified_gmt":"2008-12-08T16:05:47","slug":"sam-b-what-is-different-gonna-fill-in-how-in-a-second","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/script_analysis\/2008\/12\/08\/sam-b-what-is-different-gonna-fill-in-how-in-a-second\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam B.- How is it different pt. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time-\u00a0 <\/strong>The perception the characters have of time in the play is skewed.\u00a0 Often they mistake a passage of time to be much longer than it actually was, or much shorter.\u00a0 The audience, however, can only guess at these things however, because questions of time are never answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Repetition of spoken words-\u00a0 <\/strong>Very often the characters repeat lines or words over and over again.\u00a0 This is different from reality.\u00a0 It seems as though they are doing it to derive some reason out of what they are saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motivation of those Waiting-\u00a0 <\/strong>As the watcher of the play observes, there is really no reason for the two men to keep coming back to the tree each day.\u00a0 The amount of time is insignificant, we are meant to understand that they will keep coming back forever.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Importance of Situations-\u00a0 <\/strong>The gravity of many situations is skewed.\u00a0 Why don&#39;t the two men help Pozzo up immediately?\u00a0 Their casual conversation as he is begging for help is definitely different from reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food-<\/strong>\u00a0 All that remains for the men to eat are carrots, turnips, radishes, and bones.\u00a0 I fond it interesting that the first three are almost like what one would feed a horse, such as the one Lucky is trying to be.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treatment of Servant-\u00a0 <\/strong>One of the most noticeable differences from reality is in the treatment of Lucky.\u00a0 What is the purpose of treating him like a beast of burden?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Circular Path of Reasoning-\u00a0 <\/strong>There are never <em>conclusions <\/em>in the play, only discussions.\u00a0 These discussions become arguments until Vladimir and Estragon get distracted or just drop the subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Longing for Death-\u00a0 <\/strong>Certainly in reality men do not seriously discuss how unhappy they are or how they would love to hang themselves if they only had the means.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quickness of Changes that Normally take a Long Time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tree- In one day has grown full leaves<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Blindness-\u00a0 In one day Pozzo has gone blind<\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment-->   <!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Time-\u00a0 The perception the characters have of time in the play is skewed.\u00a0 Often they mistake a passage of time to be much longer than it actually was, or much shorter.\u00a0 The audience, however, can only guess at these things however, because questions of time are never answered. \u00a0 Repetition of spoken words-\u00a0 Very often &hellip;
