STEM and CS- We Love Acroyonms!

I have definitely loved the push for STEM, especially at the younger levels. Last year, I observed my friend who teaches first grade, and looking at their daily schedule, I remembered feeling really disheartened that it said science/social studies for only 20-30 minutes at the end of the day. I think people don’t realize how science integrates all 4 core subjects and even some of those elective classes. In science, you can have reading comprehension from your science articles and then use data to make graphs and calculations, and then incorporate science in wars/nuclear bombs to connect history classes.Based on the way the job market is heading, I do not think CS or STEM is going to go anyway, but something that we are going to start seeing increases of. In my science class, we obviously do a lot of STEM, but I can do better about incorporating CS into my instruction. In the coming weeks, we are doing a crime scene lab and connecting our chemistry naming to a “real-life” crime scene. The last thing I did with CS was I had one of my students create a Minecraft game to review lab safety
