Cornelius Saloninus was the son of the emperor Gallienus and his wife Salonina. He was born in 242 CE and lived until 260 CE. When his brother Valerian II was killed, he became Caesar in 258 CE under his father’s leadership and was sent to the Rhine. He was made Augustus for a short while during the year 260 CE, but was then executed. As Saloninus was such a young emperor during his reign, coins with his image were made to promote the dynasty.
