The CDO asked some rising 3Ls:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What was the first question you were asked in the OCI interview?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cTell me about yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some firms added a variation like \u201cTell me about yourself\u2026<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026and why did you decide to come to law school?\u201d or<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026and why did you choose Richmond Law?\u201d or<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026and what you are looking for in a firm?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Were you asked any questions that are not on the standard list of interview questions in the <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/law.richmond.edu\/career\/_pdf\/interviewing_guide.pdf\"><strong><em>CDO Interview Guide<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cGive us three\u2026\u201d<br \/>\n\u2026traits that you have as a person that would make you a good fit at their firm, or<br \/>\n\u2026words to describe yourself and your skills, or<br \/>\n\u2026attributes that make you unique from other students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalk about a time when you had to prioritize school\/work over personal life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have 1 minute to make me passionate about any non-legal subject matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell me about a time you overcame a difficult time in your life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What has been the most difficult part of law school?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is your favorite restaurant in Richmond?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is your favorite comedian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you do for fun?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy should I go back to our firm\u2019s hiring team and say that you deserve a callback?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Were you surprised by anything in your interviews?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThe interviewers were a lot friendlier and more laid back than I anticipated. It felt like we were just having a casual conversation. In some interviews, the employers talked more than me.<\/p>\n<p>One firm asked about my writing sample brief, so it was a very good thing that I had reviewed my writing sample and was prepared with all submitted materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Any final advice?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nI would encourage students to not over-prepare; I\u2019ve found I\u2019ve connected much better with employers when I\u2019m genuinely answering their questions and being thoughtful, rather than reciting a response I\u2019ve prepared word for word.<\/p>\n<p>I think that the guides on the CDO website have been extremely helpful and I have used them a lot this summer, not only for interviews but for informational interviews as well.<\/p>\n<p>All the questions revolved around four themes: (1) Tell me about yourself; (2) Why did you apply for our firm?
