Steenz Reflection

Steenz first introduced herself and then talked about her journey and important life events that led her to her current work. It was fascinating to learn about her unique career path and how she got connected to her field. It’s clear that she loves what she does and is passionate about the topics she works on. One important thing I learned from Steenz’s presentation is that comics are more than just entertainment. They can actually bring communities together and help empower individuals. By giving people the ability to create their own comics, Steenz expands the range of stories and experiences that are shared. This can unite people, inspire their imaginations, and provide a platform for voices that might not otherwise be heard. Steenz also shared how they use comics to reach local communities through workshops, tutorials, and fan expos. I found out that a lot of comics do these in advance to not get behind and to give the artists a chance to color and edit these. Which is crazy to think about that it’s not done that morning. This hands-on approach shows that comics can do more than just tell stories; they can also bring people together and give individuals a way to express themselves. This broader understanding of comics means that they can be used not only as a form of entertainment, but also as a tool for understanding diverse narratives and experiences. Steenz’s presentation showed that comics have a much greater purpose. They can bridge gaps between people, empower individuals, and allow for diverse representation. This shows us why it’s important to read comics, as they can help us understand, connect, and appreciate different stories and perspectives.
