Assignment #3 visualization

Visualization assignment: There are many types of visualizations according to the digital humanities coursebook and these visual forms of information all “create meaning, they don’t just display it(page86)”. The type of visualization I chose to show is the table. For the amount of information under the broad topic I chose to look at, I felt the table was the most organized and easy to understand. The table shows columns that are organized by their title. For example the book shows that “it puts dates in one column and number of pages output by an author into a second one”. Except the table isn’t always the best visualization option when it comes to trying to find a pattern. “All of the information in it makes good sense but trying to read columns of numbers to see a pattern in them is difficult” page 87. The topic I chose to look at is marvel superheroes and their super powers. In the first column of the table it shows the characters wikidata identification number, for example wd:Q19398. The second column shows their character name that marvel gave them. The third column shows what their super power is. The fourth column shows which marvel universe they belong to. It is good for people to learn a little more about each character before selecting one because each super power is listed right in front of your eyes. The organization of superheroes in alphabetical order is super effective because if you are looking for a specific superhero to work with it is easy to find. You can also flip the order from A to Z or vice versa, Z to A. I also think having each superhero’s super power listed is a very effective way to display what each character is all about. It also helps someone narrow down their searches if they are more interested in working with certain super powers rather than superheroes.
