assignment #6, Steenz

Steenz’s visit was very interesting, fun, upbeat, and full of cool information about what she does as an artist. I enjoyed learning about how other cartoonists come up with cartoons that she uses in her job. Her ability to showcase her talent in not only illustration but storytelling as well was impressive. Her work with diverse themes and characters stuck with me. It was fascinating to see how her work does good by the audience reading and looking at her stories and illustrations. She promotes diversity and inclusivity in the work she produces. Not only does she promote diversity and inclusivity in her work but she shows her dedication to the topic through supporting other voices in the same industry as her. She is confident in what she does because she is so passionate about it. I think her visit to our class was very important not only learning about her pathway with comics but learning about how she takes criticism and backlash and how she responds. You are never going to be perfect in someone else’s eyes but she shows that if you are true to yourself and what you believe in, another person’s backlash shouldn’t make you stop doing what you love. In class we are constantly looking up our artists online so being able to talk and listen to one living in the same world we are was cool to see. How she is able to create and read comics through so many different lenses was interesting to hear about.
