Steenz Reflection- Cori Nichols

Steenz first introduced herself and then went into detail about her timeline and life events that have led her to where she is now. I loved hearing about that because it was extremely interesting to hear how she got connected and fell into such a unique career path. She seems like she loves what she is doing for work currently. It allows her to be creative about topics that she is genuinely passionate about. I got a lot of broad takeaways from Steenz’s presentation, and many of the takeaways are useful to know about the key structure and purpose of digital humanities. Steenz taught me that comics are more than just entertainment; they serve as instruments for community-building. Through empowering individuals to create, Steenz broadens the scope of storytelling, weaving a more diverse and vibrant array of narratives. These endeavors have the potential to unite people, nurture imagination, and grant a voice beyond what simply reading a comic can offer. By enabling more individuals to engage in creation, Steenz opens the door for self-expression to a wider audience. Steenz, on the other hand, told us about their efforts to use comics to reach local communities by holding workshops, and tutorials, and putting on fan expos. Steenz’s hands-on approach emphasizes that comics are more than just a form of entertainment or storytelling. They are a versatile medium that can bridge gaps between people, empower individuals, and act as a platform for diverse representation. This way of engaging with comics broadens the reasons why we should read them, as they become not just a means of escapism but a tool for understanding, connection, and appreciation of diverse narratives and experiences.
