Steenz reflection- Kylee Lewandowski

Steenz

Steenz talked about what it was like to be a cartoonist. She talked about the struggles and the good things. She also talked to us about her journey to get there and how that might be different than someone else’s journey. Something I found interesting was when she said she has a team of people helping her with her comic strips. For example, she draws them, and she has people color them for her. I also found it interesting how far in advance she has to plan her comic strips. She may plan weeks ahead maybe even a month at times. After Steenz’s visit it gave me a new appreciation of all the work that goes into comic strip creations. A cartoonist has to be able to generate new ideas daily to produce in the newspaper. Comics are significant because they reflect what is happening in current times. Sometimes cartoon artists have to look at current events to get inspiration for their next strip. This tells a lot about what is going on in the world during that time. This relates back to the readings that talk about the creation and details of comics. It relates back to the “How to study graphic novels” because in the book it talks about all the little details in comic strips and Steenz was also talking about the intrigant details that go into comic strip creations. Overall, I found the visit with Steenz very interesting, and I learned a lot about what goes into making comic strips.
