I think that visualizing in this sense is the process in which we create new forms of representation through what we can see. This visualization that I have created is a map of pubs around the globe. I love exploring new places and I feel like pubs are a great place to delve deeper into the cultures of new places. This is a somewhat effective representation of pubs around the world, but I noticed that most of them are located on the western side of Europe. This is very interesting to me because I have never been to Europe, but I have heard a lot about the bars/pubs in that area. This allows me to visualize the condensed grouping of pubs in areas that I have never been to. This type of visualization that I have created (a map) is usually used to find or figure out where specific things are located. This could be used to find pubs in different areas, and allow you to pick and choose where you would like to go.
I found this experience of creating my own visualization to be somewhat difficult. I attempted to find a few things to focus on and include within a map, but I could not figure out the correct inputs for SPARQL that would help me find the data. I also realized that a lot of the entries within wiki data have very little information, so when I would plug them into the input on SPARQL it would leave me with a very small amount of points on my map.
My plan for completing the “Critical Creation #1” assignment is to link together the most popular comic strip that Stephen Bentley has created with his life. I want to attempt to include pictures of these strips, as well as create a very well-versed visualization that truly represents all that Stephen Bentley stood for in his comics. I think that connecting his life to his work visually will create a very interesting way to see information.
