Data Visualization: BATMANN!!

Data Visualization is a powerful tool for conveying information and gives insights through graphical representations of data. The visualization I thought to consider was that from a query talking about the popular superhero or vigilante, batman. Utilizing the wikidata to give a query that gave around six points, the visualization gave a graph with the same amount of graphics. There were six bubbles representing the following: Batman Animated, Batman Live, Batman work group, Troldspejlet Special: Batman, Batman Day, Batman: Film, fortaelling: Det hyperbevidste. Some of the following points within the query are a bit confusing nonetheless it still provided an interesting visualization to acknowledge.
The visualization is in the form of a graph depicting it in a unique way with several bubbles which each have different other links to them. This graph sort of resembles a data tree of some sort with several branches. These graphs are typically used to show connections between several different data points or sets of information. For instance each of the six bubbles share a common connection to that of the wikidata code for batman, which is specifically (Q2695156). The graphs effectively show there is a connection to the common wikidata code and explains the connections well. Something that is also really interesting to consider is that not all of the wikidata points within the graph are not in the same language. For instance both these specific points, Batman: Film, fortaelling: Det hyperbevidste and atman work group, Troldspejlet Special: Batman are wikidata points in Danish as they both share a Danish point in the graph. It is interesting that the query would give such a point, but not surprising considering the character batman is present and popular in other countries. What is surprising is that there are not any more data points from other countries highlighting this character.
Creating this query was definitely interesting as it took a lot of skills I am not the most familiar with. Coding can be quite complex and I think wiki data coding is just as complex. It took me a while to get any real data on specific characters like that of the Chucky, Batman, or Spiderman. I was previously using some example templates to help create this query, but I definitely needed to reevaluate them as they utilized things that were not as specific. Thus, I changed the filter from “instance of,” to that of “main subject,” and I got actual results regarding the character batman. Creating the visualization was interesting, however I did expect greater results with such a character.
In terms of the critical creation piece, I would like to make a visualization that is a bit more flexible, but easier to reach. Tree-like graphs such as this one are beneficial, but have their drawbacks. It would be beneficial to have a more specific graph with great detailing surrounding more topics than just appearances. I want to highlight a character that is more specific to the comic I am studying, potentially that of Huey or his brother found in the Boondocks. Another idea can be a chart acknowledging the audience reactions to some of the comic strips from the Boondocks. I think all ideas would be great and produce a great visualization.
