Data Visualization – Holden Habermacher

This visualization is created based on the data from the GNC Visualization page under “Authorship By Genre”. It is composed of discrete information (pg. 89) as the information does not change over time. The labeling (pg. 90) is helpful as it shows the main comic genres into which the data is sorted. The graphic variables (pg. 98) used by the author, especially the colors used to distinguish between the number of authors, helps the reader understand the data further. The reader can draw assumptions about what number of authors is most common for each genre and in general. The visualization shows that the graphic novel is the most popular genre, independent of authorship type. This is consistent with my view of comics because the only comics I had read prior to this class had been graphic novels. I would like to know if a certain genre of comics is most popular in a certain region of the world, but I understand that separating that data from this graph makes this graph easier to digest for the reader.
