The main goal of this course is to inform us as readers that there are so many ways a single reading or story can be interpreted. This course focused on three biblical narratives: the story of Adam and Eve, Noah, and The Binding of Isaac. When studying Adam and Eve, we looked at other interpretations of the same basic story (The Story of Lilith, The Secret Revelation of John. etc.) that offered different opinions on Genesis 1-3. Next, our group studied the different interpretations of the Noah story (such as Aronofsky’s movie “Noah” and the implications on modern society. Finally, we read and studied the story of The Binding of Isaac through many different lenses that opened our eyes to the multiple opinions offered on the story. Through these stories, this course has allowed us to develop abilities to recognize various interpretations, ask deep questions, and improve critical thinking skills.
