Minute Paper Noah

Today we discussed elements of the Noah films and various texts and commentaries on the Watchers. Aronofsky combines traditional elements of the flood story with his own creative license; for example, the destruction of “all flesh” excludes animals, and light is used as a symbol for God. Noah embodies the justice in the flood, while his wife and family represent the mercy. The film may also be a commentary on the environment, raising the question of whether man is meant to have dominion over the earth, or care for the earth.
