Aronofsky’s “Noah”

In out group today, we discussed Aronofsky’s Noah and how it rewrites the original story of Noah to relate to our society today. We noted that the main theme of the movie involved the barren wasteland that was the earth back then. The descendants of Cain used up all of the resources because they were “men” and that was their purpose. On the other hand, Noah and his family, as descendants of Seth, take care of the earth and take only what they need. Aronofsky points out that society today resembles the line of Cain in a way as we take and take without thinking of the consequences. Can today’s humans follow in Noah’s footsteps and act as stewards? Or are we too much like Tubal-Cain and choose to dominate?
