We discussed the complexities of the Watchers Tradition, primarily its motivations and function in Jewish society post-crisis. We agreed that the Watchers didn’t fit well into Genesis and was built off of interpretation of interpretation by the time it reached the Noah movie. In the movie, we noticed that Noah is not necessarily presented as the hero. Biblical Noah is much simpler and presented as a clear protagonist and hero. Including his internal struggles regarding whether or not humans are inherently destructive modernizes the story and applies it to political issues such as climate change. The movie poses a question: can humans exist on earth without being destructive? However, the movie gives no answer.
