Secret Revelation of John

Today we analyzed the Secret Revelation of John in depth. If we were second-century Alexandrian Christians who read this as sacred scripture, we would interrupt Gen 1-3 differently than most. One difference between our beliefs is the mindset the lower Gods had towards man. In the Secret Revelation of John, the higher deities viewed Adam with contempt because they believed he was superior to them. In the Translation, the Savior persuaded Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge to rebel against Yaltabaoth, an evil deity. This implies that Adam and Eve were actually doing the right thing because they are following the order of the good God. Differences such as these show that though the two stories are very similar, Jews and Christians ultimately have a more moral and just perspective on Genesis 1-3 than the Alexandrian Christians.
