Today we discussed the role of the story of Lilith in Rabbinic tradition. We discussed the implications and the multiple perspectives of the Alphabet of Ben Sira. We debated the different interpretations of this story. For example, one can interpret the story as an injustice towards Lilith and therefore pointing out the injustice of female oppression in society. One can also interpret it as a means of portraying the evil which comes with female disobedience. We then discussed at length certain topics such as Lilith’s potential as a threat to different groups and Plaskow’s interesting interpretation of the story.
