Enuma Elish and Gilgamesh

Comparing and contrasting the biblical creation accounts and the ancient near eastern myths gave us insight into ancient worldviews. Enuma Elish was primarily concerned with cosmology and had some similarities with the first biblical account such as a creator deity using already existing matter to create. Gilgamesh had similarities with the fall of man in the second Genesis account with the mention of a plant that gives immortality, a snake, and a loss of harmony with nature. The main difference between the biblical accounts and the ancient near eastern myths was the monotheistic vs. polytheistic worldview.
