First Unit Summary

The first unit covered the ways in which different groups interpret the Bible. Initially, we examined the ways in which a particular persons perspective can greatly alter the way they interpret a particular passage from what another person sees in the same exact passage. We covered the many different factors that effect how a specific passage is written and interpreted such as background, belief system, culture, time period, and in some instances what the reader is looking to find in the text.  In addition, the class read documents which explained specific methods of reading scripture.
