{"id":709,"date":"2013-09-07T20:38:37","date_gmt":"2013-09-08T00:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/playing-at-leadership\/?p=709"},"modified":"2013-09-07T20:38:37","modified_gmt":"2013-09-08T00:38:37","slug":"tlf-dr-croft-i-presume","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/playing-at-leadership\/2013\/09\/07\/tlf-dr-croft-i-presume\/","title":{"rendered":"TLF: Dr. Croft, I Presume?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So in the wake of all the craziness in the gaming community last week, I offer up <a href=\"http:\/\/thelearnedfangirl.com\/2013\/09\/07\/dr-croft-i-presume-tomb-raider-isnt-what-youre-expecting\/\">my review of <em>Tomb Raider<\/em> over at the Learned Fangirl<\/a> as a ray of hope in a sea of misogyny and rape jokes.<\/p>\n<p>Square Enix&#8217;s <em>Tomb Raider<\/em> is not only a fun game, but it&#8217;s a <strong>good<\/strong> game from a design standpoint. And it&#8217;s a game that features its female hero as a hero, not a damsel or a waif or a princess. She&#8217;s smart, resourceful, adaptive, and intellectual &#8211; as well as being physically capable of taking on either exploration or combat. And the new Lara Croft (unlike the old one from 1996) doesn&#8217;t have a bosom equivalent to twice the mass of her cranium, which I personally find to be an improvement.<\/p>\n<p>But even the positive female hero aside, <em>Tomb Raider<\/em> is just a good game, and one that the husband enjoyed as much as I did&#8230; and he&#8217;s an industry professional.
