{"id":1327,"date":"2016-08-31T10:05:09","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T14:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/playing-at-leadership\/?p=1327"},"modified":"2016-08-31T10:05:09","modified_gmt":"2016-08-31T14:05:09","slug":"shakespeare-and-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/playing-at-leadership\/2016\/08\/31\/shakespeare-and-brexit\/","title":{"rendered":"Shakespeare and Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/playing-at-leadership\/2016\/06\/24\/brexit-the-ancient-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\">posted about this idea briefly right after the Brexit vote in June<\/a>, but this past week I had something actually published about how Shakespeare&#8211;and Shakespeare&#8217;s <em>Pericles&#8211;<\/em>can help us think about the Brexit vote:<a href=\"http:\/\/lea.sagepub.com\/content\/early\/2016\/08\/25\/1742715016663753.abstract\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8220;From Rome to Tyre to London&#8221; in <em>Leadership. <\/em><\/a>In\u00a0<em>Pericles<\/em>, Shakespeare presents arguments for and against Union between England and Scotland on the heels of James I&#8217;s accession to the throne. English rejection of that Union seems like it parallels current Brexit conversations&#8211;but the corollary is in fact far from perfect.
