{"id":165,"date":"2009-09-24T12:44:29","date_gmt":"2009-09-24T17:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2009\/09\/24\/apologies-to-steven-morris\/"},"modified":"2009-09-24T12:44:29","modified_gmt":"2009-09-24T17:44:29","slug":"apologies-to-steven-morris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2009\/09\/24\/apologies-to-steven-morris\/","title":{"rendered":"Apologies to Steven Morris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My little piece on evolution and the second law of thermodynamics appeared in the <a href=\"http:\/\/scitation.aip.org\/dbt\/dbt.jsp?KEY=AJPIAS&amp;Volume=77&amp;Issue=10\">most recent issue<\/a> of the <em>American Journal of Physics<\/em>.\u00a0 (Non-paywall version <a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/0903.4603\">here<\/a>.)\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t going to note that on the blog, since I&#8217;ve already written <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2008\/12\/07\/entropy-and-evolution\/\">plenty<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2008\/12\/11\/more-on-evolution-and-entropy\/\">about<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2009\/03\/01\/accepted-2\/\">it<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/physicsbunn\/2009\/03\/08\/whos-the-audience\/\">before<\/a>, but there&#8217;s one citation I wanted to include that didn&#8217;t make it in, so I figured I&#8217;d at least point it out here.<\/p>\n<p>After the article had been accepted, Steven Morris pointed me to a <a href=\"http:\/\/ncseweb.org\/rncse\/25\/5-6\/creationism-laws-thermodynamics\">piece he wrote<\/a> back in 2005 for <em>Reports of the National Center for Science Education<\/em> that, like mine, quantitatively compares the entropy increase supplied by sunlight with the decrease required for evolution.\u00a0 I was going to add a mention of this to my article when I got the proofs, but apparently AJP doesn&#8217;t do proofs for short notes like this, so I missed my chance.
