Thanks, Xipeng!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma9916510413606241\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Don Quixote<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/files\/2022\/03\/Don-Quixote.jpg?resize=350%2C500\" alt=\"Don Quixote ballet DVD case\" width=\"350\" height=\"500\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3740\"><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma9916510413606241\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Don Quixote<\/a><\/em>, a dramatic love story on tiptoe<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roh.org.uk\/people\/marius-petipa\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Don Quixote de la Mancha<\/a><\/em> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Don_Quixote\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spanish novel<\/a> written by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miguel_de_Cervantes\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miguel de Cervantes<\/a>. The main character of this novel is named <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alonso_Quijano\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alonso Quixano<\/a>, who read many chivalric romances and lost in his dream of becoming as a knight. He recruited <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sancho_Panza\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sancho Panza<\/a>, a farmer, as his squire and started his journey. <\/p>\n<p>The theme of the ballet is adapted from the original novel but only focuses on two chapters. Taking place in Spain, the dancing language expresses enthusiastic, strong and powerful cultural characteristics with various dance types, including <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Romani_people\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Romani<\/a> dance and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flamenco\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flamenco<\/a>. The dancing techniques require high standard with daring balance, twisting leaps and 32 <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Fo250jmBl6I\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fouett\u00e9s<\/a>, which is one of the most classic whipping turns. <\/p>\n<p>The music composed by <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/gmo\/9781561592630.article.18739\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ludwig Minkus<\/a> also contributes to this spectacular showcase. One thing to note is that the choreography was first created by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marius_Petipa\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marius Petipa<\/a>, and even thought his creation has been through several revivals, it still serves as the most important foundation for <em>Don Quixote<\/em> ballet productions. The <a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma9916510413606241\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">video available in the Music Library<\/a> was choreographed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mikhail_Baryshnikov\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mikhail Baryshnikov<\/a>, and is located in the DVDs section.<\/p>\n<p>A quote from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roh.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Opera House<\/a> said that \u201cIt is one of the few Petipa ballets to be named for the hero rather than the heroine.
