His family moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida subsequently. As a first-generation American, DBR&#8217;s family home was filled with Haitian folk music and his family encouraged him to listen to a variety of classical and contemporary music.  <\/p>\n<p>He discovered the violin at age 5.   In junior high school, he formed his own rock \/ hip-hop band playing guitar and synthesizer.<br \/>\nHe majored in music composition at <a href=\"https:\/\/blair.vanderbilt.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vanderbilt University\u2019s Blair School of Music<\/a> and continued his studies at the <a href=\"https:\/\/smtd.umich.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">University of Michigan<\/a> where he earned both his masters and doctoral degrees.<\/p>\n<p>DBR is an innovative composer, performer, activist and educator.  His works blend hip-hop, funk, rock and classical music into genre defying, energetic and experimental forms.  He has collaborated with many orchestras and chamber ensembles around the world.  His eclectic musical interests are reflected in the fact that he has collaborated with all manner of artists like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmusiconline.com\/grovemusic\/view\/10.1093\/gmo\/9781561592630.001.0001\/omo-9781561592630-e-3000000124#.X4YBVAYJRY8.link\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philip Glass<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/lady-gaga-mn0000994823\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Gaga<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_T._Jones\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill T.
