Riding the enormous success of their previous album, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/2017\/11\/arachnophonia-simon-garfunkel-bookends\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bookends<\/a><\/em>, Simon &#038; Garfunkel established themselves as one of the greatest rock duos in the world at the time, before splitting up shortly after the album\u2019s release. <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/files\/2018\/02\/R-1282815-1473945182-2126.jpeg-298x300.jpg?resize=298%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Baby Driver \/ The Boxer 45\" width=\"298\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1496\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/files\/2018\/02\/R-1282815-1473945182-2126.jpeg.jpg?resize=298%2C300&amp;ssl=1 298w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/files\/2018\/02\/R-1282815-1473945182-2126.jpeg.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.richmond.edu\/parsons\/files\/2018\/02\/R-1282815-1473945182-2126.jpeg.jpg?w=599&amp;ssl=1 599w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The album has two notable songs that I particularly like and recommend. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Boxer\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Boxer\u201d<\/a> is a folk rock selection, and is a narrative, first-person lament that outlines the character of a boxer. The song describes the singer\u2019s struggle to overcome poverty and loneliness, before crafting the boxer character as a metaphor for his life, exhibited in the lyrics \u201cI am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/SIm2eKQm0BM\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Boxer\u201d<\/a> was popularized in the instrumental world due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dci.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Drum Corps International<\/a>\u2019s premier corps, the <a href=\"http:\/\/bluecoats.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bluecoats<\/a>, and their 2008 production entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CvbDFHCbZE0\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Knockout,\u201d<\/a> in which the corps plays and sings excerpts of \u201cThe Boxer.\u201d The Bluecoats\u2019s interpretation of the song is widely recognized as one of the most popular segments of any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dci.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DCI<\/a> show in history, and is frequently performed by the corps while they tour over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The second song I recommend is entitled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulsimon.com\/song\/baby-driver\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baby Driver<\/a>.\u201d This song played no part in the naming of 2017\u2019s hit movie <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt3890160\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baby Driver<\/a><\/em>, but it was featured in the film.
