This book discusses why it&#8217;s important, where it originated, and places where the American flag is seen.\u00a0 It has beautiful pictures and is a rhyming book. There is extra information about the American flag at the bottom of each page that can be used with older children. With younger children the simple rhymes on each page can are sufficient enough to learn the basic concepts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Curriculum Connections:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Flag We Love can be used as a great introduction to the important symbols of our country. It can also be incorporated around holidays such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Veterans Day. This book can cover VA SOLs K.9 and 1.11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Resources:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.scholastic.com\/browse\/collateral.jsp?id=31873\">Scholastic<\/a> has a good lesson plan idea for children to learn about the American flag and recite the book as a class for parents.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pammunozryan.com\/flagact.html\">Pam Munoz Ryan<\/a> has a page devoted to math activities that can be used with the book The Flag We Love<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apples4theteacher.com\/coloring-pages\/usa-flags\/\">Apples4theteacher<\/a> has some great pages devoted to the American flag.
