Copyright, Sampling, and The Unfortunate Reality of Music Law

Many people believe copyright laws are created to stifle artists’ creativity or prevent them from copying a similar sound when in reality copyright laws are meant to stifle business and control the flow of cash that the music generates. Copyright laws indirectly stifles creativity by prioritizing ownership and the control of the cash flow of music and enacting this through laws that hinder an artist’s ability to sample or use a sound that is too similar to another artist.
