Music is changing. So why not its Marketing?

Current digital marketing primarily involves traditional social media marketing on TikTok, Instagram, and other digital avenues of marketing like Discord and Twitch, as well as some newer strategies of hidden marketing. Platforms like TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube can cater to the needs of newer indie artists, like Doja Cat and her discovery through the TikTok algorithm and Kenny Beats and his use of Twitch for intimate live streams. They also offer opportunities for established artists to engage with their fans, like Olivia O’Brien and her single release and cover art challenge. On the other hand, platforms like Instagram may be more beneficial for established artists, like Young Thug when he was promoting his 2021 album. Using examples and scholarly sources we also show that artists have had success in marketing when their input is blended with the expertise and data provided by their label.
