The Power of The Mix: The Producer’s Role in Artist Success and Women’s Rights

Throughout the 1960s music Producers like Phil Spector and George Martin pioneered or revised production techniques that helped to turn some of the biggest names in music, like The Beatles and Ronettes, into superstars. While Spector’s Wall of Sound and Martin’s loop recording assisted groups like The Ronettes, the Crystals, and The Beatles in achieving “superstardom”, Martin’s work with the Beatles promoted women’s autonomy and freedom while Spector’s work encouraged women’s “inferior” and sexist status quo of the 1960s.
