Self Love

Since 2016, BTS has moved onto the topic of self-love through their Love Yourself album series. Utilizing the structure and development of classic Chinese, Korean, and Japanese narratives ‘起承轉結’ (introduction, development, turn, and conclusion), the group released three albums and a single video in the following order: Love Yourself 承 ‘Her’, Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’, “Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder”and Love Yourself 結 ‘Answer’.

First unveiled in March of 2016, the BTS LOVE YOURSELF series creates a narrative by linking the key songs in each album into a single theme, imparting the message that “loving yourself is true love”.

BTS created the track “Answer: Love Myself” as the outro track for their final composition album Love Yourself 結 ‘Answer’. This track uses an English hook to reach a wider global audience in addition to Korean verses of individual members discuss their personal struggles with self-love.

The song’s background track was also used as the theme song for their LOVE MYSELF campaign with UNICEF. BTS started the hashtag #ENDviolence and donated a portion of profits from each Love Yourself album to fulfill the campaign mission of ending violence for children and teens around the world. This campaign exemplifies the pinnacle of the group’s successful usage of social media as the means to better the livelihood of youth through music as a source of reassurance.

To conclude their message of self-love and fight against violence, BTS spoke at the UN General Assembly during the launch of it’s Generation Unlimited Partnership as UNICEF’s goodwill ambassadors. Take a look at the speech:
