For my final essay, I want to explore the compositions and philosophy of 20th century composer John Cage. As someone who essentially defines the term “avant-garde,” Cage changed the way that the modern and contemporary eras of music progressed, and how he opened so many avenues for musicians to express themselves in their art. I would like to discuss is influences on the music industry, and determine what aspects qualify him as a genius.
