Analyzing their performance of “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers at the 56th annual Grammy Award ceremony is vital in understanding their development in producing new sounds. They combined their distinct electronic amp-based sounds with two of the most influential artists in their own field of pop and hop/hop. Additionally, displaying their acceptance speech helps elaborate on how their act does not end once the music commences. They did not speak when accepting the Grammy and allowed Pharrell to give the acceptance speech. In leaving the public appearance to Pharrell, Daft Punk again chooses not to make public appearances so that their egos and characters are not associated with their music, and their body of work can stand on its own with no real human backstory.

The duo has won 6 Grammys in multiple categories, including song of the year, album of the year, and best group performance. “Get Lucky” peaked at number 2 on the billboard hits and was there for 5 weeks, and after its release was the most streamed song in Spotify history. Their sophomore album Discovery, is currently triple platinum, and their final album “Random Access Memories” was the most streamed album of all time in its first week after release. Their hit song “Harder Better Faster Stronger” won a Grammy for best dance recording, and when Kanye West sampled the song in his 2006 hit “Stronger”, he only gained the duo more press, especially from a new hip-hop fanbase. They have billions of online streams and are possibly the most popular EDM artists ever.

Through their public appearances and performances, Daft Punk portray an ethos of mystery as a result of their outfits and masks which rarely change through their performances. In their Grammy performance in particular, they stay behind a glass stage, isolated from the other performers, which again shows how they try to make their personalities and interactions separate from performance and music. In doing this, Daft Punk allows audiences to look at their music in a more objective manner because there is no personality involved in their performance.
