Hot Soloing: A style of fast and on the spot vocal solos 

Signify: Using a musician from your lineage to indicate that you understand your background/heritage and that you are in dialogue with the music that came before you

Trope: A musical addition to or a substitution for an item of plainchant. A trope may or may not have words, and is often an introduction to a chant. an addition to a pre-existent chant (known as the “host”). The trope introduces and comments on the text of the host chant. Tropes are usually syllabic and are sung by a soloist; they may be monophonic or polyphonic. a type of plainchant used between 10th and 12th centuries

Syncopation: Unusual groupings of rapid notes against slower steady beat, typically on the off beat. Characteristic of Rock/Hip Hop

Back spinning: The act of manually manipulating a record (currently playing on a turntable), using enough force to cause the record to spin backward

Turntablism: The art of manipulating sounds and creating new music, sound effects, mixes and other creative sounds and beats, typically by using two or more turntables and a cross fader-equipped DJ mixer

Scratching: Rhythmically moving record under needle

Drum Synthesizer: A device that simulates percussion sounds in various combinations and rhythms, and can alter digitally stored drum sounds or make digital recordings of drum sounds.
