A fact that strikes me the most is that more than 90% of sexual assault victims on college campuses do not report the assault. Additionally, rape is the most underreported crime in the real world; 63% of sexual assaults are not reported to police, and only 12% of child sexual abuse is reported to police. I think many of these types of statistics answer the question “why do a few men commit 90% of sexual assaults?”
About 82% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows. There already is such a low rate for reporting these crimes, and thus if he attacker gets away with it, he/she is more likely to do it again and become a serial repeater. If the serial repeater continues to get away with it, he/she may be deranged enough to think that what they are doing is not rape. This is not an excuse for why they get away with it because an unwanted sexual act is an unwanted sexual act, and if someone protests what you’re doing, you should know right then and there that what you’re doing is invasive and wrong.
