Men and Sexual Assault

The topic of sexual assault is a very touchy subject, especially for women. The chances of men being sexually assaulted by women is very slim. However, there are many cases out in the world where this has occurred. Why do men sexually assault women? Because they physically can. Men, on average, are stronger and powerful compared to women. Given this, some men, in order to please their sexual needs, can make  a women have sex with him. Obviously, this is unacceptable and disrespectful in countless ways. Sadly, this is reality and many women in America have dealt with this issues before at least once in their life. Many times, women are sexually assaulted by someone they know. I have heard many stories where family members such as fathers, brothers, or other relatives sexually abuse a women in their family. The most common one occurs between the father and daughter. Why would a father want to sexually assault their own daughter?

Other sexual assault cases occur on college campuses. Most of the time, it occurs when two people sexually engage while under the influence, or drunk. After a long night of drinking, if two people go home together and engage in sex, even if the women consents, the male can still be accused of sexual assault. This is because someone who is under the influence does not have their normal cognition. Someone who is drunk is more prone to doing things they wouldn’t do if they were sober. So when they both wake up the next morning, the women could easily say she does not remember anything from the night before, or say she would never have done it if she was sober. Personally, this is pretty unfair but at the same time, it is understandable. However, in college, many students engage in sexual activity after drinking. This has become acceptable in our society today. Yet, those cases where the man may have thought the feelings were mutual and consent was given, does not seem all that fair at times. The court will always take a woman’s word over the man.
