incarceration, maybe?

Disclaimer, I don’t know much about this subject at all, so I’m making several guesses here.

Socio-economic reasons – race and class are often very much meshed together in this country, and very often, one affects the other.  Factors of urban planning, zoning laws, neighborhood prices, and school districts all play a role in creating and maintaining racial and economic divides.

Our justice system is built on a foundation of racially insensitive judgments that obviously favors white citizens.  Not only do black people immediately merit a suspicious mindset by many people in our justice system, often times trials are not held with appropriate value placed on education and circumstances of upbringing when forming a judgment.  Thus, people are incarcerated for things that can be fixed through rehabilitation and training, or even a reevaluation of economic divisions.

There are many prisons that are for-profit and privately owned.  While this doesn’t necessarily mean they focus on black populations, they do make incarceration more appealing.
