Gnostic texts (Selmira, Tee, Emily)

The Secret Book of John was primarily focused on the creation story and how Yaldabaoth came to be. We spent a good amount of time discussing some of the details in this text and began to understand the connection between different aeons. Yaldabaoth took the power from Sophia in order to create the world. Sophia created him out of ignorance and we began to understand she did this without her male counterpart. In our analysis of the Treatise on the Resurrection, we spent time trying to figure out where Jesus played into the picture. We distinguished him as the “self-begotten’ son and that people based their resurrection thoughts on the likes of Jesus and his resurrection.
